English Toffee
1 cup sugar
1 Tablespoon Karo Syrup
1 cup butter
¼ cup water
1/3 cup chopped nuts (almonds are my favorite)
½ cup chocolate chips
1. In a saucepan mix sugar, water, butter and syrup; bring slowly to boiling point
(use medium heat).
2. Stir constantly as mixture cooks; cook to hard crack stage and mixture darkens.
3. Pour onto buttered baking sheet; spread.
4. Top candy with ½ cup chocolate chips; spread when chips are melted.
5. Top with nuts; break with back edge of a spoon when totally cool.
